What does it take to Prevent Youth Substance Abuse?

The MetroWest Health Foundation has released a final report on its work to prevent youth substance abuse.  Through this six-year initiative, the Foundation sought to reduce the levels of alcohol and drug use in eleven MetroWest communities.  The initiative combined grants to the towns with technical assistance from Education Development Center and evaluation from Brandeis University.

The report highlights key achievements, including increased parent understanding of preventing substance abuse, incorporation of evidence-based substance abuse curriculum in schools, policy change, federal grant funding and a reduction in at lease one measure of youth substance use in all funded communities.  A DVD featuring stories and accomplishments from community stakeholders is part of the report.
