With the start of the new year, the foundation awarded 12 new scholarships to MetroWest residents pursuing degree programs in health care. The foundation's Scholarship Committee awarded at total of $20,000, enabling 12 residents to complete programs in medicine, nursing and the allied health professions.
In this round of funding, scholarships were awarded to individuals enrolled in the following programs: Medical Doctor (1), Physician Assistant (1), BS in Nursing (5), LPN (3), and Occupational Therapy (2). These awards bring to the total value of scholarships provided by the foundation to over $1.6 million since inception.
To receive a scholarship, applicants must be a resident of one of the 25 towns in our MetroWest service area. Scholarships are awarded for tuition up to a maximum of $2,000 per academic year and applicants may reapply on an annual basis. The maximum amount any individual can receive in scholarship assistance from the foundation is limited to $8,000. The Scholarship Committee awards scholarships based on a rating scale using financial need, grade point average, letter of recommendation and a personal essay.
